About Harbour Manoeuvres

Thanks to the success of previous years we will again organise both the 1-day "General harbour manoeuvres" and the 1-day "Mediterranean harbour manoeuvres" trainings in collaboration with the sailing school VVW Nieuwpoort.

The trainings take place in Nieuwpoort at the VVW-Nieuwpoort (Flemish Watersports Organisation – sailing school, officially recognised by the Belgian Government).

You may combine the "General" and the "Mediterranean" harbour manoeuvres training on a same weekend: participation fee (PAF) = €196 (2x€98).Possibility to book full board: €30 per person and free overnight stay on a boat of the sailing school. Rent of sailing gear: 9€ per day. Free use of marina facilities.

Participants will be awarded a certificate by the VVW attesting the trainings in which they participated.


General Harbour Manoeuvres:

Programme

How does the propeller work - how to moor and sail away from a lee shore or a windward shore - how to berth a boat forwards and backwards, on a spring line, alongside a pontoon and a dock, sail backwards out of a berth and by means of a spring line, turn in narrow areas.

The training takes place in the marina, you will not go out to sea.

Choose one of the dates: 18 April, 9 May, 30 May, 6 June, 20 June 2020.
Participation fee (PAF): 98/day. Payments are due 5 weeks before the date of the training.

Required level: Competent Crew


Mediterranean Harbour Manoeuvres:
​1-day training

Programme

For those who already attended the "General harbour manoeuvres" course and want to improve their skills. During this training the manoeuvres of the general training will be practiced more in-depth with a special focus on situations in the Mediterranean: anchoring, mooring on buoys, reverse mooring to a pontoon.

The training takes place in the marina, you will not go out to sea.

Choose one of the dates: 19 April, 10 May, 31 May, 7 June, 21 June 2020.
Participation fee (PAF): 98/day. Payments are due 5 weeks before the date of the training.

Required level: Competent Crew and "General harbour manoeuvres" course attended

Enrolment, payment and cancellation

CNCE participants enrol with the organizer (Ann Cornelis) who assigns places and requests payment to the CNCE account (CNCE asbl: IBAN: BE62 3100 5860 4961 BIC: BBRUBEBB).  The enrolment is definitive once the payment is received in the CNCE account. Deadline for payment is 5 weeks before the event (total amount due at that time; no partial payments).

If a participant needs to cancel up to one month before the event in case of illness or accident, the fee will be reimbursed minus 80 euro or, if the participant can be replaced by another person (preferably with the same sailing skills), the whole fee will be reimbursed. Within one month of the event, the fee is non-refundable unless the participant is replaced by another person.

When booking, please mention whether you need sailing gear (for rent at 9€ per day) and/or carpooling. In case you book the whole weekend, please mention if you would like to stay overnight and book full board (dinner on Saturday evening, breakfast on Sunday morning and preparation of a packed lunch for Sunday lunch).

​The day of the training you are expected at 09h00 at the latest in the Brasserie "10 Beaufort". The training starts at 09h15. Please bring a packed lunch and drinks.
For those who book full board, breakfast on Sunday morning is served at 08h30 in the Brasserie "10 Beaufort".

Maximum 4 participants per training. All trainings are delivered in English.

Boat types: Bénéteau First 35,  Etap 32S, Archambault A 31, One Off "Breeze", Jeanneau 30, 2 Bénéteau First Class 7.5, Bavaria 37 and one sailing simulator.

VVW has very good marina facilities.

 How to get there

  • To get to the marina: E40 - direction Veurne, exit 3 "Nieuwpoort".
  • First traffic lights turn right, direction "Nieuwpoort Stad".
  • Keep going until the end (= 2nd traffic light) and then turn right (direction "Lombardsijde-Oostende" - "Kustbaan").
  • Over the bridge, passing the monument "Albert" (one of the Belgian kings), turn left at the first coming traffic lights.
  • Cross the street and turn left. This is the "Watersportlaan".
  • Follow the road until you see a big white pyramid at your left side and a bit further you will see a "barrier". If the barrier is open, you can continue and park your car there, otherwise you will have to find a space somewhere there.

Practical details

Please bring your lunch. It is possible to eat a snack or warm lunch in the tavern "10 Beaufort" at the marina. This needs to be discussed with the instructor the morning you arrive. There is also a snack bar where you can buy a sandwiches and drinks.

The training takes place in the marina, you will not go out to sea.
