About Harbour Manoeuvres

Thanks to the success of previous years we will again organise both the 1-day "General harbour manoeuvres" and the 1-day "Mediterranean harbour manoeuvres" trainings in collaboration with the sailing school VVW Nieuwpoort.

The trainings take place in Nieuwpoort at the VVW-Nieuwpoort (Flemish Watersports Organisation – sailing school, officially recognised by the Belgian Government).

The "General" and the "Mediterranean" harbour manoeuvres training will tak place on weekends.
The participants who decide to take both trainings on the same weekend will be allowed to sleep on the boat. However, cooking on board is not permitted. Therefore, please bring your food and drinks.
Rent of sailing gear: €10 per day. Free use of marina facilities.

Participants will be awarded a non-official certificate by the VVW attesting the trainings in which they participated.


General Harbour Manoeuvres:
​1-day training

Programme

How does the propeller work - how to moor and sail away from a lee shore or a windward shore - how to berth a boat forwards and backwards, on a spring line, alongside a pontoon and a dock, sail backwards out of a berth and by means of a spring line, turn in narrow areas.

The training takes place in the marina, you will not go out to sea.

Choose one of the dates:  10 June 2023, 16 July 2023, 16 September, 23 September 2023
Participation fee (PAF): €106/day. Payments are due 8 weeks before the date of the training respectively (April for June and July trainings, or end of July for the September course).

Required level: Competent Crew


Mediterranean Harbour Manoeuvres:
​1-day training

Programme

For those who already attended the "General harbour manoeuvres" course and want to improve their skills. During this training the manoeuvres of the general training will be practiced more in-depth with a special focus on situations in the Mediterranean: anchoring, mooring on buoys, reverse mooring to a pontoon.

The training takes place in the marina, you will not go out to sea.

Choose one of the dates: 11 June 2023, 17 September and 24 September 2023
Participation fee (PAF): €106/day. Payments are due 8 weeks before the date of the training (respectively April or end of July 2023).

Required level: Competent Crew and if possible "General harbour manoeuvres" course attended first.

Enrolment, payment and cancellation

CNCE participants enrol via Twizzit. The enrolment is definitive once the payment is received in the CNCE account. Deadline for payment is 8 weeks before the event (total amount due at that time; no partial payments).

Once registered, the participation fee is not refundable, with only one exception, if an adequate replacement is found (preferably with the same sailing skills).

When booking, please mention whether you need sailing gear (for rent at 10€ per day).

​The day of the training you are expected at 09h15 at the latest in front of VYNieuwpoort office building (Watersportlaan 11, Nieuwpoor). Please bring a packed lunch and drinks.
Maximum 4 participants per training. All trainings are delivered in English.

Boat types: Bénéteau First 35,  Etap 32S, Archambault A 31, One Off "Breeze", Jeanneau 30, 2 Bénéteau First Class 7.5, Bavaria 37 and one sailing simulator.

VVW has very good marina facilities.

 How to get there

  • To get to the marina: E40 - direction Veurne, exit 3 "Nieuwpoort".
  • First traffic lights turn right, direction "Nieuwpoort Stad".
  • Keep going until the end (= 2nd traffic light) and then turn right (direction "Lombardsijde-Oostende" - "Kustbaan").
  • Over the bridge, passing the monument "Albert" (one of the Belgian kings), turn left at the first coming traffic lights.
  • Cross the street and turn left. This is the "Watersportlaan".
  • Follow the road until you see a big white pyramid at your left side and a bit further you will see a "barrier". If the barrier is open, you can continue and park your car there, otherwise you will have to find a space somewhere there.

Practical details

Please bring your lunch and drinks. It is possible to eat a snack or warm lunch in the tavern at the marina, however it is not guaranteed. The tavern can get busy on sunny days and you have to book it in advance. You can make a dinner reservation yourselves on www.restogaljoen.be. For breakfast you can pass by the bakery in the morning.
